Plummy black fruit, cherry and blueberry sit at the heart of this characterful Crozes-Hermitage, joined by lifted violet, peppery spice, black olive and a subtle smoky note. Medium-bodied rather than heavy, with fine tannins and enough freshness to balance the wine's concentration. A wonderfully savoury expression of Northern Rhône Syrah.
Natacha Chave farms her Crozes-Hermitage vineyards organically and biodynamically, with the grapes harvested by hand. The Syrah comes from vines around 50 years old, grown on clay soils with galets. The grapes are partially destemmed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 12 months' maturation in 600-litre demi-muids. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
