This English Chardonnay is rich and textured with a deep golden hue, opening with vibrant citrus and tropical fruit characters, think zesty lemon, honeydew melon and pineapple. It’s underpinned by subtle nutty complexity like toasted hazelnut and almond from extended lees ageing and oak influence. On the palate it offers a broad, structured body with bright acidity and layers of savoury toast, brioche and light smoky nuances, finishing with a fresh, saline-tinged zest that balances the fruit and oak-derived richness.

Method Magic Blackbook Winery produces its “Pygmalion” Chardonnay using a minimalist, Burgundian-inspired approach: hand-harvested grapes are whole-bunch pressed directly into Burgundy barrels, where the wine undergoes natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by approximately 20 months’ maturation in barrel with frequent lees stirring (bâtonnage) to build texture, complexity and integration. Extended ageing on fine lees enhances mouthfeel and depth while preserving freshness and structural precision. The winery, founded in 2017 and based in a railway arch in Battersea, South London, sources high-quality English fruit from sites including Essex and Oxfordshire and vinifies it in London with a low-intervention philosophy. It is owned and run by Sergio Verrillo and his wife Lynsey, who focus on expressing site and variety through careful élevage and restrained winemaking.
