Terrific red Burgundy from one of our go-tos, this beautiful expression of Pinot Noir from Domaine Germain (Pere et Fils) jumps out the glass with a bouquet of redcurrants and roses. Deepening into fresh cherries and gentle spices, this wine possesses a wonderful balance between delicacy and persistent flavour. Judicious oak enhances the fruit-filled character. Pairs especially well with duck or mushrooms dishes - if you don’t get through a bottle before dinner is served.

Method Magic Domaine Germain has been producing wines in Saint-Romain since 1955, and with a new state-of-the-art winery just installed, their bottles are getting on Burgundy-lovers radars. Saint-Romain lies in the Cote-de-Beaune, and is recognised as a great-value appellation in this most sought-after region. La Périère vineyard, meanwhile, is renowned for the minerality it imparts through its limestone soils. The wine matures for 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which is new. It can also age if kep well-cellared, developing stewed fruit notes.
