Method Magic The Artadi Izar Leku sparkling wine is the result of a collaboration between Bodegas Artadi and local Basque vineyard partners, cantered on 3.75 ha of Hondarrabi Zuri and a touch of Hondarrabi Beltza around Zarautz, grown on clay, slate, and basalt soils. The grapes are hand harvested and crafted using the traditional méthode traditionnelle, with extended ageing on the lees to develop energy, aromatic complexity, and the characteristic Atlantic coastal saline minerality. Artadi, founded in 1985 in Rioja Alavesa by Juan Carlos López de Lacalle and a group of local growers, remains family led. Today, with his son Carlos López de Lacalle it is focusing on terroir-driven, minimal-intervention wines that emphasize purity and vineyard expression. The Izar Leku project brings Artadi’s expertise to the Basque coast, elevating local Hondarrabi grapes into a refined, complex sparkling wine.
