Nikka Coffey Grain

An iconic innovation, this is grain whisky from Japan created through a Coffey still. The tall columns and continuous process of this method results in a purer whisky that retains notes of the corn and barley that make up its original material. Vanilla and honey mingle with mango and papaya, developing into popcorn slathered with toffee, plus flavours of coconut and butter on the finish. Method Magic When Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru visited Scotland in the early 20th century, he was enchanted by the use of Coffey stills, an invention patented by Irishman Aeneas Coffey in 1830 that continuously distills spirit to produce a light, pure style. Two Coffey stills were installed in the 1960s at Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery, Sendai, which still process corn and barley to produce Nikka Coffey Grain whisky. Once the spirit has come off the still, it is matured in a selection of old American oak casks. An iconic Japanese classic since its first release in 2012. 🥃
