Method Magic Château Clos René dates to the mid-18th century and has remained a family estate through generations. Today it is co-owned by the Garde and Lasserre families and managed by Jean-Marie Garde. The vineyard sits on the western side of the Pomerol plateau, planted mainly with Merlot but also a significant amount of Cabernet Franc and Malbec over gravel and sandy soils that lend the wine its characteristic depth and structure. The winemaking methods are traditional. The grapes are fermented, typically in temperature-controlled cement vats, followed by a period of malolactic fermentation in tank. The wine is then aged for about 18 months in French oak barrels, of which roughly a quarter are new. This allows integration of oak while letting the pure fruit expression shine through. Sustainability and a classic Bordeaux vinification philosophy guide both the vineyard and cellar work.
