This Haut-Médoc is a classically styled, fruit-forward Bordeaux with freshness and elegance. Across strong vintages like 2016 and 2022, tasting notes highlight deep ruby colour and aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, ripe plum and wild red berries, often layered with floral hints, orange zest, liquorice, tobacco, menthol or subtle pencil-lead minerality. The palate is typically medium-bodied with juicy red and black fruit, fine to grainy tannins, balanced acidity and a mineral, sometimes slightly saline finish.

Method Magic An historic Haut-Médoc estate dating back to the 13th century, with the present château built in the 19th century. After centuries under the ownership of the Donissan family and later by the Miailhe family and a Japanese group, it has belonged to the Merlaut family’s Groupe Taillan, since 1996/1997. The vineyard spans roughly 90–100 hectares in Avensan on gravel, sand and clay-limestone soils planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (with some Cabernet Franc). Grapes are typically picked by hand having been selected from specific plots. They are then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and aged for about 12–15 months in French oak barrels, a proportion of which is new oak. Blending and bottling take place at the estate, producing the Grand Vin Château Citran and its second wine, Moulins de Citran, in a classic structured Haut-Médoc style.
